Is Thumbtack Pro worth it?
For some trades in some markets, yes, and the way to know is to divide what you pay per lead by the share you actually win. Thumbtack charges per lead, at a price you set with a slider, and the same customer can contact several pros. Below is how the charging works from their own help pages, and the alternatives.
How Thumbtack charges
You pay per lead. When a customer contacts you directly from search results and the job matches your preferences, you are charged automatically at the lead price you set. For jobs you reach out to first, the price is shown up front and you pay only if the customer responds.
Thumbtack says prices vary with the type and size of the job, how many pros are available and your market. That last one matters: in a crowded category you are one of several the customer can message.
The division that answers the question
Lead price divided by your win rate is your cost per job. If you pay $40 a lead and win one in four, a job costs $160 before you have driven anywhere. Compare that against what a job costs you from Local Services Ads or your own site, and the answer is usually obvious.
Most shops never do the division because the statement shows the lead price, not the win rate. The calculator linked below does it.
The alternatives
Google Local Services Ads charges per lead too, but the lead is yours alone and verification takes weeks. Your own Business Profile and website are slowest to build and nobody can raise the price on you. And answering the calls and forms you already get costs nothing in media. Most shops that leave a marketplace and stay happy did the third one first.

How much does Thumbtack Pro charge per lead?
A price you set with a slider, varying by job type and size, available pros and market. Thumbtack publishes the mechanics, not a fixed rate. Your statement has your actual figures.
Is Thumbtack better than Angi for contractors?
Both sell leads that other pros can also see. The comparison that matters is cost per job from each, worked out from your own win rate, against Local Services Ads and your own site.
What is the alternative to Thumbtack Pro?
Google Local Services Ads for exclusive pay-per-lead work, your own Business Profile and website for work nobody can reprice, and answering every call you already get.
