Are Google Local Services Ads worth it?
For most licensed home-services trades, yes, and usually before regular Google Ads. What trips people up is the setup: verification takes weeks, and disputing bad leads is a job somebody has to do every week.
How they are different from Google Ads
You pay per lead, not per click, and the lead is yours rather than shared. The ads sit above everything else on the page, with a Google Guaranteed badge, and they are booked from the ad itself.
They are also much simpler: no keywords, no ad copy, no landing page. Google matches on your services, your area and your reviews. Good if you have no time, frustrating if you want control.
Why they should usually come first
They appear above the paid search results, a lead costs less than the equivalent click-through in most trades, and the badge settles the trust question before the homeowner clicks anything.
If you can only fund one paid channel, this is normally it. Regular search ads earn their place afterwards, on the searches Local Services Ads do not cover.
The weekly work
There are two jobs every week. Dispute the leads that were not real, because you are charged for them until you do and Google's window is short. And keep asking customers for reviews, because your ranking in the pack runs on them.
Neither is difficult. Skipping them is why an account costs more per job in month six than it did in month one.
Before you start
Verification needs licence and insurance documents and background checks, and it takes weeks rather than days. Start it before you need it.
And check that somebody answers the phone. Local Services Ads rank partly on how fast you respond, so a shop that misses calls both pays more and gets shown less.
What this page will not claim
Local Services Ads are not available in every trade or every city, and the lead volume in a small market can be too low to matter. We check both before recommending it, and sometimes the answer is that your Business Profile is the better first move.
