Is missed-call text-back worth it?

It is usually the highest-return thing a service business can switch on, and you can work out what it is worth in a minute from two numbers you already have. Here is how, so you can check it before anyone sells it to you.

What it is

When a call comes in and nobody picks up, an automatic text goes out within seconds: we missed you, what do you need, we will call straight back.

It works because the caller has a problem right now and is already dialling the next number on the list. A text that lands before they finish that call often stops them dialling.

What it is worth to you

Take your missed calls a week and your average ticket. Multiply them, then multiply again by the share you think you would win back.

Ten missed calls a week at an $800 ticket is $8,000 a week going unanswered. Win back a quarter and that is $2,000 a week. Win back a tenth and it still covers any tool on the market several times over, which is why every vendor leads with this sum.

Registering your number to text

Texting a US customer from a business number needs carrier registration, called A2P 10DLC. It takes weeks, it can be rejected, and until it clears the messages either do not send or land unreliably.

So ask any vendor three things before you ask the price. Is my number registered, who is filing the paperwork, and what date does it clear. Anyone who cannot give you a date does not have one.

What this page will not claim

We cannot switch this on for a new client today. Our own carrier registration is still in progress, and shipping a texting product that silently does not text is worse than not selling it. If this is the thing you need this month, we will say so and point you at someone who is already registered.
